I’m going to the seaside next week… completely for free! You’re probably already wondering how I managed this “deal”. Very simple – my husband is paying. :D That’s the end of the good news… The bad news is that I might have to run all the way to the sea if I want to comfortably fit into the two-piece swimsuit I so enthusiastically chose for this summer. I don’t know how it happens every year, but in winter I somehow “invest” in subcutaneous reserves without even noticing, as if I’m preparing for hibernation instead of beach season. Then comes the moment when I stand in front of the mirror with the new swimsuit and start promising myself that from Monday I’ll live only on salad… until I see a piece of cake. Anyway – the swimsuit is already bought, the sea is waiting, and I’ll probably let my husband drive while I run after the car all the way to the beach. If I survive the trip, I might at least have a chance to fit into my new two-piece swimsuit without wondering where all those “winter reserves” came from.
As I already hinted, this year I decided to buy a two-piece swimsuit in a bandeau style. Honestly, this is probably the best choice for women who don’t have a very large bust… like me. Sometimes I feel like when busts were being handed out, someone upstairs was in “economy mode” exactly when my turn came. So if you’re in my team too, feel free to go for a bandeau swimsuit or a classic triangle model. It remains a timeless piece, and the ties let you adjust how tightly it fits your body. And if the model has ruffles, gathers, textured fabrics or interesting details, the chances of slightly “tricking” others into thinking nature was extra generous increase significantly. I’m not saying it’s magic… but it’s definitely one of the best beach fashion tricks.
Padded swimsuits are also a great option, as long as you have slightly stronger shoulders. Last summer mine got so waterlogged that I felt like I was carrying two kitchen sponges. At one point I wasn’t even swimming anymore – I was fighting for survival. I was just one step away from giving an interview about how I almost drowned because of… the padding. So if you choose such a model, make sure the padding is light and dries relatively quickly, because nobody wants their swimsuit to weigh more than their beach bag.
Besides the fact that the horizontal line of this swimsuit visually “lifts” and widens the bust area, it also has a few other strong advantages… If you’re more athletic and have slightly “masculine” shoulders, the bandeau swimsuit works wonderfully – it softens the line and adds just the right dose of femininity we all look for at the beach. And one more thing – no straps. Which means no tan lines on your shoulders that make it look like you spent the whole summer carrying sacks of potatoes instead of going to the beach.

These are probably some of the most elegant swimsuit models, which is exactly why I decided to get one this year too. You can recognize them by their clean design and lack of unnecessary decorative elements… And I especially like the fact that they usually don’t have huge logos or, if they do, they are very subtle. I’m simply not a fan of swimsuits that literally scream “look at me, I bought something expensive, please notice me”.

If you have an hourglass figure, you should know that this swimsuit creates such a good balance between the upper and lower body that the result is… yes, exactly that — the feeling of being a little beach goddess.
The biggest mistake is choosing the wrong size in the hope that “it will somehow work”. No, it won’t! If the top is too loose, you’ll have to constantly hold it up with one hand instead of enjoying the sea. Don’t put yourself through that discomfort! The opposite extreme is also not recommended, because if it’s too tight, it may become uncomfortable and you’ll spend the whole day secretly adjusting it, hoping no one notices.
Another common mistake is over-accessorizing. Girls, this is the beach, not a mining exhibition. The minimalist bandeau swimsuit relies on its clean look. If you add huge necklaces, oversized earrings, ten bracelets and a hat that could shade half the beach, the effect will no longer be elegant. Sometimes a pair of nice sunglasses, a simple beach bag and a pair of stylish women’s flip-flops are more than enough.
Many women also underestimate the material. Cheap models often look great in online photos, but after the first swim they start to stretch, become see-through or simply lose their shape. And if you haven’t checked the quality beforehand, trust me – that’s definitely not the moment you want to realize you made a compromise. A well-made swimsuit almost always looks better, regardless of whether it is expensive or not. Sometimes the difference is not the price, but the quality fabric and craftsmanship, which can turn even the simplest model into a truly stylish beach look.
And one more thing that is often overlooked – the bandeau swimsuit is elegant enough on its own and doesn’t need to “prove itself”. Don’t combine it with overly flashy beach clothes or shoes that try to steal all the attention. Its simplicity is its biggest advantage. Sometimes the most stylish summer looks are the ones that seem effortless… even though we all know how long it can take to choose the perfect swimsuit.

If the minimalist bandeau is the calm and confident girl on the beach, the structured bandeau is its more ambitious sister. In this case, cups, underwires or a firmer construction do most of the work for you. It’s as if the swimsuit is saying: “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.” That’s exactly why this model is a great choice for women with a larger bust, because it provides more support and doesn’t make you check every five minutes whether everything is still in place. And if your bust is smaller, like mine, it still works perfectly – the structured design creates a nicer shape and gives the impression of extra volume. It won’t work miracles, of course. If you expect to suddenly look like a 90s Hollywood lifeguard the moment you put it on, you might end up slightly disappointed. But it will definitely make you smile a bit more when you look in the mirror.

If there is one model that can create optical illusions without Photoshop, it is definitely the ruched bandeau swimsuit. All those gathers, soft folds and textured details are not there just because the designer had extra fabric. They create volume exactly where many of us secretly wish for a little more. If you have a smaller bust, this type of model can do wonders for the overall look without appearing artificial. Everything looks softer, more feminine and much more natural. Even when you get out of the water, the swimsuit keeps its beautiful shape and doesn’t look like a simple wet piece of fabric that has surrendered to gravity.

The ruched bandeau is also a great choice for women with a rectangular body shape or so-called athletic build. If nature gave you long legs but was a bit more economical with curves, this model can visually bring more balance to the upper body. The same applies to the pear-shaped figure, where the hips are wider than the shoulders. The ruching around the bust adds a bit of volume on top, making the whole silhouette look more proportional. And if you have an hourglass figure, you can wear this swimsuit confidently, as it simply enhances your natural curves without disturbing the harmony.
When it comes to colours, there is also quite a lot to say. Light shades, pastel colours, floral prints and larger patterns look especially good on ruched fabrics because they emphasize the texture and make the design more interesting. If you already have a nice summer tan, white, cream, coral or turquoise swimsuits look absolutely stunning. For lighter skin tones, I would avoid very pale beige shades, because they sometimes blend into the skin and from a distance it can look like you forgot the top at home. And that is definitely not the effect most of us are going for.
Of course, this model is not ideal for every woman. If you have a larger bust and rely on your swimsuit to provide solid support throughout the day, a ruched bandeau without underwires or a stable inner structure is probably not the best choice. After a few hours at the beach, you might find yourself adjusting it more often than actually enjoying the sea. In that case, I would go for a structured bandeau or a model with removable straps that can always be used if you decide to play beach volleyball or chase kids along the shore. Because it’s one thing to sip a cocktail calmly on a sunbed, and quite another to sprint after an inflatable mattress that the wind has just decided to send towards Greece.
And one thing many women underestimate – the ruching should stay beautiful, not stretch out after the second swim. If the material is cheap and lacks elasticity, it quickly loses its shape and instead of elegant texture you end up with something that looks like a wrinkled curtain after washing. That’s why you should always pay attention to fabric quality. A well-made ruched bandeau swimsuit can easily last you several seasons without looking tired after the first holiday. And that, in my opinion, is one of the best investments you can make for your summer wardrobe.

I’ll admit something – if I had to choose between giving up ice cream at the beach or wearing a high-waisted bottom, I would choose the second option without even thinking. Ice cream is still part of the holiday after all. That’s exactly why I love this model so much. High-waisted swimsuits are not only back in fashion, but they also do a great job if you haven’t managed to get rid of a few stubborn winter kilos… or you simply decided that life is too short to count every bite. They gently smooth the tummy area, define the waist, and create the feeling of a much more harmonious silhouette. They look especially good on pear, hourglass, or apple body shapes because they emphasize the waist and highlight the most beautiful curves.
However, there are situations where I wouldn’t recommend this model. If you have a shorter torso, a very high waist can visually shorten it even more and create a slightly “compressed” look. In that case, I would choose a bottom that sits just below the navel instead of covering almost the entire abdomen. It’s also important that the top and bottom are well balanced. If the bottom is simple, you can safely choose a bandeau top with ruffles, interesting texture, or a statement detail to draw attention upwards. And the best part is that when you sit down on a sunbed after a big lunch, you won’t panic about whether your tummy has decided to go on holiday before you.

This is one of those models that at first glance looks very simple, but in reality the small details make a huge difference. Contrast trims outline the silhouette and create a very beautiful visual effect. It’s as if someone carefully traced the most flattering lines of your body with a pencil. When placed correctly, they can visually shape the bust, make the waist look slimmer, and even improve overall proportions. That’s why this type of swimsuit looks great on both slim women and those with curvier figures. The classic black-and-white combination is especially striking, but versions with bright coloured trims on a solid base are also very trendy.
Of course, there is a small catch here too. Contrast naturally draws attention, so if the trim runs across an area you don’t want to highlight, the effect can be the opposite. For example, a light horizontal stripe across a fuller bust or hips can add extra visual volume. That’s why you should always pay attention not only to colour, but also to where the lines are placed. And one more thing – this model doesn’t really like overly busy beach accessories. If the swimsuit already has a strong graphic detail, let it be the star. Otherwise, you risk looking like someone who tried to combine all summer trends into a single beach outfit.

This year, clean lines and solid-colour fabrics are in the spotlight. When it comes to colours – for another year in a row, the beach is dominated by chocolate brown and olive green. Yes, they look very classy, but to be honest – they’re starting to feel a bit repetitive. A fresher choice would be swimsuits with contrast trims, sand beige, and all those warm neutral tones that look elegant without being too loud. Or simply follow the golden rule – the lighter your skin, the more pastel the colours should be… unless you decide to risk contrast – there you either win points or lose the whole match. My advice? If you have fair skin – stay away from brown, black, and neon. Seriously.
Although this swimsuit looks good on almost any body shape, there is one situation where… let’s say… you might need a bit of extra “support”. If you have a larger bust, a classic bandeau is not the most practical choice – unless you enjoy adrenaline and want every wave to turn into an extreme sport. In that case, it’s better to go for a model with straps or stabilising features that keep everything under control. And one more thing – as cute as ruched styles are, on a larger bust they can play a trick on you… instead of “subtle volume”, the result becomes “wow, this is basically 3D cinema”. So it’s better to skip them unless you want to make a dramatic entrance visible from a kilometre away.
In the end, the most important thing is not whether the swimsuit is minimalist, ruched, structured, or high-waisted. The most important thing is that when you wear it, you don’t spend the whole time thinking about how you look, but actually enjoy the sea, the sun, and your well-deserved holiday. The truth is that a perfect beach body doesn’t exist. There is only a body that has decided to take a break and enjoy itself. Choose a model in which you feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident, not just one that is trending on Instagram. And me? I’m already ready for the sea. My husband will drive, I’ll probably eat two ice creams on the first day, and if the swimsuit manages to contain all my “winter investments”, I’ll count that as a personal victory. After everything said, I’ve realized one thing – it’s not the swimsuit that makes the summer, but the people you spend it with. The swimsuit just helps the photos look a little better.
